The rules that apply to you

Labelling#

The Advertising Standards Authority's advice on affiliate marketing (22 March 2023) sets out the position. Affiliate content is advertising and must be "obviously identifiable" as such (CAP Code rules 2.1 and 2.3). "Ad" at the front is the clearest label ("#ad" at the start on X). A standalone "affiliate" label has been ruled not enough, and a disclaimer at the bottom, or a vague "I may receive commission", is unlikely to be enough. We are both responsible: the business cannot hand its responsibility to the affiliate, which is why we ask you to use the approved copy. Creators and influencers should also follow the ASA's influencer guidance (2023).

Rule

If you have any commercial relationship with us (commission, payment, free or reduced access, anything of value), everything you publish that mentions Maktura carries a clear "Ad" label at the start. When in doubt, label it.

Format Where the label goes
LinkedIn post or comment "Ad" as the first word
X "#ad" at the start
Carousel or document post "Ad" on the first slide and at the start of the post text
Video or Story Said at the start, and "Ad" on screen from the start
Podcast Said before you mention Maktura, and "Ad" in the episode title or description
Newsletter "Ad" at the start of the Maktura item, not only in the footer

Claims, urgency and reviews#

  • Claims must be provable. Use the words in this playbook. No superlatives, and no comparisons with named competitors in public.
  • No numbers on availability. No seat counts, bands, deadlines or dates: only the team confirms the current position. The ASA upheld a complaint against an "only 14 tickets remaining" claim that was wrong because of an error (Uppholdings Ltd, 22 November 2023): a wrong number is a breach even when nobody meant it.
  • Genuine experience only. If you have not used Maktura yourself, do not write as though you have. Never post a review on our behalf or ask anyone else to.

Messages and emails#

  • No bulk or unsolicited emails or LinkedIn messages about Maktura. A LinkedIn direct message counts as electronic mail, and sole traders and some partnerships must have agreed to receive marketing (ICO guidance on business-to-business marketing). Maximum fines are now £17.5 million or 4% of global turnover (reported as in force from February 2026).
  • No automation of any kind on LinkedIn (auto-likes, auto-comments, connection or message sequences). Maktura does none of it, and partners must not either.
